Who can use Draft?

Draft is built with both lawyers and non-lawyers in mind. Depending on the complexity of your contract templates, you may wish to grant access to legal and commercial teams.

How are contract templates created in Draft?

You can either move the contract into Review or download the contract as a pdf or docx file.

How does Review fit into my current workflow?

Review allows you to edit and negotiate your contracts more effectively, replacing the part of your workflow that would otherwise be done manually in Microsoft Word.

How does Review automate contract editing?

Review compares the contract to the preferred positions you set out, which we call a playbook. It then suggests edits to bring the contract in line with positions acceptable to you.

Who builds the playbooks?

Our team of legal experts build the Playbooks for you to ensure they are configured correctly and in a way that our AI can understand.

Eventually, you will be able to view, edit and create your own Playbooks if you wish. For now, your playbooks will be created during onboarding and can be adjusted whenever you like - just talk to your Robin AI lawyer or customer success manager.

How is AI used in Review?

We use a series of proprietary Machine Learning models to read a contract when it is added to the platform, in order to label each clause in a document. These labels are linked to the Playbook being used to edit the document, and tells the user which part of the document each entry in the Playbook refers to, whether it needs to be edited, and if so, to suggest an edit.

What is Machine Learning?

Machine Learning (ML) is the name for AI techniques that use big datasets to train an algorithm to perform a task. Instead of having a software engineer program a computer to go through all the steps required to perform a task successfully, ML uses data like a collection of labelled examples. Then a process of trial and error (called training), in which mistakes are used to adjust the program (called a model), is used to create a program that can perform the task successfully.

What is NLP?

NLP stands for Natural Language Processing. That term covers a family of language processing algorithms, many of which we use at Robin. In particular, we use NLP methods to identify the key values in contract clauses so that we can assess whether that clause adheres to your Playbook, or whether it needs to be changed.

Do you use our data to train the model?

All of our customers to date have agreed to let us train our clause-labelling models using the contracts we process for them. This ensures that we can continue to improve our software and work on a growing list of contract types.

Does this mean other Robin AI customers will see our data?

No, your data is only used to train the models that label the type of clause in a contract. The language and other data in your contract is only ever seen by you. The only impact your data has is that any mistakes our AI models make on your contracts are then corrected so that the model can learn to avoid these mistakes in the future.

Will I have to organise my contracts myself?

No - As part of our complimentary ‘white glove’ onboarding service, our team of London-based legal professionals will set up all of your historic contracts to your specification, with the support of our proprietary machine learning technology.

Is there an additional charge for onboarding?

No, we do the initial setup and then use AI to read your contracts and structure the data for you, so we don’t charge anything extra for onboarding.

How does the automated reminders feature work?

Your contracts contain important deadlines and obligations that you need to keep track of, like expiration dates or reporting deadlines. With the reminders feature, create email reminders for those terms so you never get caught out.

Who can access my data?

You can use the Groups feature to manage which of your team members have access to certain contracts stored within Query - so everything stays private.

Can I download contract data?

You can download a spreadsheet of your labelled contract data at any time as well as a copy of the original, and share it with anyone you like.

How does Query use Machine Learning?

Is it free to use Robin AI's add-in for Microsoft Word?

Yes, everyone can use their work email address to create a free account with Robin AI. Once you've created your account, you'll receive quick instructions for getting Robin AI's add-in for Microsoft Word up and running. This is available for PC and Mac users on both the browser and desktop applications of Word. The free accounts provide you with access to Robin AI, which will enable you to ask questions and get answers about your contracts, get suggested edits for your contracts, check the defined terms, and more.

Can I create my own playbook?

Custom playbooks can be created by Robin AI's team of expert legal & product professionals. These playbooks will provide AI-suggested edits for your contracts based on our own positions and preferred terms. Playbooks are typically used by in-house legal teams who consistently negotiate certain documents in a standardised way. This typically includes routine contracts like NDAs or Supplier Agreements. Speak to our Sales team to find out more about the process of playbook creation and to understand if this is a suitable product for your in-house legal team.

Can I summarise a contract with Robin AI?

Generating a summary of a contract is a very common task for Robin AI. You can generate a summary of your contract in a couple of clicks by selecting the chat box, and then selecting, Summarize. Alternatively, you can ask Robin AI to summarise the contract or to create a bulleted list of the obligations in the contract or any other task that you need help with.

What is the technology that sits behind Robin AI?

Robin AI combines proprietary machine learning models, one of the largest contract data sets in the world, and Anthropic's large language model to deliver best-in-class software that is uniquely tailored to the requirements of lawyers. The software was developed by the expert legal and machine learning teams at Robin AI who have delivered cutting-edge products that have enabled legal teams to transform the way that they review, markup and manage their contracts.

How do I find specific clauses, terms or words in my contract?

If you are looking for a specific piece of information in a contract, you can simply type your question to Robin AI as you would normally ask it e.g. "is confidential information defined in this contract?" or "what is the governing law of this contract?". Robin AI has included some questions for you that are are commonly searched for e.g. Parties, Governing Law, Jurisdiction etc. You can simply click on the chat box, then select Find in order to search for any of these terms.

Are there any limits on Robin AI's free account?

It's free for everyone to get started with Robin AI. You will be able to complete a set number of actions in your account per day on Robin AI's free pricing tier. Actions that you will be able to complete include: generating a summary of the contract, getting your questions about the contract answered, using the standard playbooks provided to get AI-suggested edits and checking the defined terms in the contract. Your usage of Robin AI's tools is capped on the free tier, so you will receive a notification to speak to Robin AI's team if you hit the cap on the actions that you can take in your account. Your account is reset at the end of each day.

How do I upgrade my account with Robin AI?

It's straightforward to upgrade your account with Robin AI. If you would like to become a paid customer, you should notify the Robin AI team here. If you would like to discuss the requirements of your business or any custom requirements that you may have, you can get in touch with our Sales team.

Can Robin AI edit my contract directly?

Robin AI can suggest edits for you to make to your contract but no changes will be made directly to your document without your validation and approval. For example, when using Robin AI's playbooks, AI-suggested edits are provided to you. These AI-suggested edits will minimise the amount of changes required to bring a clause in line with your preferred positions. The tool is designed to suggest precision edits that minimise redline. Once a suggested edit has been accepted, the changes will be made to the document in track changes so you can easily review what has changed in the document. In all instances, you will be asked whether to accept or dismiss suggested edits to your contract.

It is important to note that Robin AI's product does not provide legal advice, and if you need legal advice on a specific matter, you should seek guidance and information from a qualified legal professional.

What does "human-in-the-loop" mean?

At Robin AI we believe that the best results can be achieved by combining the power of new technologies like generative AI and machine learning techniques with the skills of legal professionals. This ethos is reflected in the development of our technology products (we have a team of dedicated legal and product specialists who are involved with every new feature that Robin AI releases) and in how we recommend our tools be used. Our technology is designed to assist legal professionals with their day-to-day tasks by finding information, providing helpful suggestions and finding ways to improve the accuracy of work like checking the defined terms in the contract. In all instances, Robin AI will only suggest changes that might be appropriate, and it is the role of the legal professional to consider whether such edits are appropriate or useful during the review and analysis of contracts.

Is there a risk of hallucinations using Robin AI?

Hallucination is a word used to describe instances where large language models, like those powering Robin AI's tools, provide an answer that is made up and incorrect. With all products that use generative AI, including Robin AI, there is a risk of hallucinations. This is why we always recommend that the answers and information provided by Robin AI is validated and verified by a legal professional. However, the team at Robin AI and our partner Anthropic take lots of steps to reduce the risk of hallucinations. This includes citing information about the contract in the answers provided (like directing a user to particular clause or section of the contract) so that legal professionals can cross-check the answers. Robin AI's partnership with Anthropic is also designed to help mitigate some of these risks as Anthropic design their products to be helpful, reliable and trustworthy.

I'm blocked from installing add-ins by my company. What should I do?

Some organisations will have their Microsoft Office tools managed by a dedicated administrator. Depending on your organisations policies and procedures, you have have a restriction preventing you from installing add-ins from Microsoft Appsource. You need to contact your organisations administrator to be able to use Robin AI's add-in for Microsoft Word. Your administrator should be able to follow some steps to enable access for you. Instructions on this process can be found in our Help Centre. You can also contact Robin AI's support team for more help with this process.

Does Robin AI's product work on PDFs?

If you are reviewing and analysing a contract in Robin AI's add-in you'll need to have a document open in Microsoft Word in order to start using the product. If you have a received a PDF from your counterparty, there are many tools that you can use to convert this PDF into a Word document format. If you are a customer of Robin AI for our AI-powered search module which is designed to enable you to store and interrogate your contracts post execution, then you can share and upload documents in PDFs.

How do I get help for my team on the training and use of Robin AI?

Robin AI's Customer Success team can help you and your colleagues to get started with Legal AI and walk you through some of the most common use cases for Robin AI's tools. If you are a customer of Robin AI, you should already have a dedicated Customer Success Manager. Do I need to verify or check the answers that Robin AI provides?

Robin AI is a helpful AI legal assistant that has been trained on millions of clauses and thousands of contracts. Robin AI's technology combines generative AI and machine learning to provide answers to users. These answers may not always be correct or true. It's why we think that the "human-in-the-loop" model is so important and the most effective way of working. In practice, this means that Robin AI will provide information and recommendations, citing the relevant parts of the contract for review wherever possible. For example, if you ask Robin AI to answer a question about your contract, where possible, Robin AI will provide the part of the contract from which it found it's answer. This makes it more simple for legal professionals using Robin AI to quickly validate and verify information.

What is a large language model?

A large language model is an artificial intelligence system that has been trained on vast amounts of text data. It can generate human-like text and respond to natural language inputs. Due to the vast amount of data used to train LLMs, they have a comprehensive understand of language and how it's structured and used. This enables them to generate high-quality text output and comprehension. Robin AI uses Anthropic's large language models, including the Claude 3 family of models in it's products for legal professionals.

Does Robin AI use the data in my contracts to train models?

Robin AI uses a combination of proprietary machine learning models and large language models to provide it's tools for lawyers. Robin AI partners with Anthropic and AWS to create products that meet the enterprise security requirements of our customers which include Fortune 500 companies and major global banks. None of the data in your contracts is used to train Anthropic's large language models. Robin AI uses the information in your contracts to help our proprietary machine learning models to recognise and label specific terms in your contracts. For the avoidance of doubt, none of the terms or language used in your clauses or contracts would ever be visible to any of Robin AI's other customers. Robin AI's proprietary models are only designed to help artificial intelligence systems to understand the structure of a document and the clauses, not the specific language that is included in the clauses.

Does Robin AI replace the need to get a lawyer?

Robin AI does not replace the need to get legal advice from a qualified professional. Robin AI is designed to augment the productivity and effectiveness of legal professionals who already have an understanding of how to review and negotiate contracts. If you are trying to improve your understanding of contracts, you can use Robin AI to help translate complex legal concepts and language into plain language, or to get a summary of your obligations. There is a free version of Robin AI's tools that you can use to generate a summary or to find information in the contract, like the term of the contract.

How do I install Robin AI's add-in for Microsoft Word?

Start by creating your account with Robin AI. The account creation process takes only a couple of minutes and requires a work email address and for you to create a secure password. Once we've verified your email address, you'll be prompted to install the add-in for Microsoft Word. Robin AI will open instructions for you in Microsoft Word that make it clear how to install and access the add-in.
